## Policies

- Delivery days: Monday through Saturday. We don't deliver or pick up on Sundays.
- Cancellations: Plans change, especially during a move. Cancel more than 48 hours before your delivery window for a full refund. Inside 48 hours, we refund everything except a cancellation fee: 50% of your order total, capped at $100. Once delivery has happened, rental fees aren't refundable. The Rental Agreement has the full policy.
- Extensions: Email hello@cruztotes.com at least 24 hours before your scheduled pickup and we'll extend your rental. An extension costs the difference between your package at the longer rental length and what you already paid, so it never costs more than booking the longer rental would have. Beyond 4 weeks, each extra week is 10% of your package's 4-week price.
- Date changes: Yes. Email us as soon as you know and we'll move things around.
- Cleaning: No. Every tote gets washed between rentals and that's on us, not you.
- Lost or damaged: Normal wear is expected and never charged. Scuffs and scratches are part of a tote's life. If something's lost or truly broken, replacement fees are $50 per tote and $100 per dolly.

## Environmental impact

Every tote in our fleet gets washed, inspected, and sent back out, 400+ times over its life. That's about 360 cardboard boxes per tote that never get made, taped up, or dragged to the curb.

- 1 tree left standing every other move. A 2-bedroom move in totes replaces about 43 cardboard boxes, roughly 86 lbs of cardboard. Two moves is a tree's worth.
- 80% less water than cardboard. Making cardboard is thirsty work. About 300 gallons of water saved on a 2-bedroom move.
- 64% less energy than cardboard. About 175 kWh on a 2-bedroom move. About 6 days of household electricity.
- 31% less carbon than cardboard. A box is manufactured for every move. A tote gets reused hundreds of times over its lifetime.

Sources:

- Franklin Associates comparative LCA, 2017 update. The one big study: reusable containers vs. cardboard boxes, measured on water, energy, and carbon. Outside scientists checked the work; the reuse industry paid for it.
- Per-ton paper equivalencies. Making a ton of paper takes 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and about 4,100 kWh of electricity.
- EIA, average household electricity use. The average home uses about 30 kWh of electricity a day.
- EPA WARM model, Paper Products chapter. EPA's model for the carbon cost of manufacturing cardboard.
- Operator lifespan figures (400+ uses). 400+ uses per tote is what companies that have rented totes for years report.

## Quote API

| Parameter | Required | Value |
| --- | --- | --- |
| package | yes | studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom, 4-bedroom |
| weeks | no | 1, 2, 3, 4. Defaults to 1 |
| deliveryZip | no | 5-digit ZIP where the totes are dropped off. Omit it, or leave it empty, when that end of the move is in Santa Cruz County. |
| pickupZip | no | 5-digit ZIP where the totes are collected. Omit it, or leave it empty, when that end of the move is in Santa Cruz County. |
| addOns | no | Comma-separated ids, each optionally ":qty" (default 1, ":0" means none). Ids: honeycomb-50ft, honeycomb-75ft, honeycomb-100ft, honeycomb-150ft, honeycomb-200ft, glassware-case, clothing-bar |

Example request:

That returns "totalCents": 28300 and "totalFormatted": "$283", itemized into a `lines` array whose amounts always sum to the total. Every amount is integer cents and excludes sales tax, which is calculated at checkout. The response also lists every available add-on with its price, so a follow-up request can price add-ons without fetching anything else.

Both ZIPs are optional, and an end of the move with no ZIP is taken to be in Santa Cruz County, where delivery and pickup are free. So a request with no ZIP at all prices a local move. Every assumed end is marked `"assumed": true` in `legs` and called out in `notes`, so ask the customer where the move starts and ends before repeating a total.

A ZIP we have no published rate for still answers 200, with "serviceable": false and hello@cruztotes.com to write to. It is never an error.

Each response carries a `book` URL. Hand that to the customer: it opens checkout with exactly the package, duration, and add-ons that were quoted. Regional fees are added from the delivery and pickup addresses they enter, so a quote covering a regional leg opens on the package price and picks the fee back up at the address step.

This endpoint prices; it does not reserve. It knows nothing about dates or availability.

## Realtors

We do. Agents can gift a tote package to buyers at close, branded with the agent's name and delivered on their schedule. It's practical, local, and it arrives right when the buyer needs it. See our Realtors page for details. https://www.cruztotes.com/realtors
